Rabi Lamichhane taken to government attorney’s office for questioning

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been summoned for questioning by the government attorney’s office in connection with the embezzlement case of the Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative. L
amichhane, who was brought to Kathmandu from Kaski, is currently in custody at the Bhadrakali District Police Complex.
He was recently escorted to the attorney’s office in Kathmandu for further investigation.
In connection with this case, the police are also questioning other officials of the cooperative. The Chair of the cooperative, GB Rai, and treasurer Kumar Ramtel have been brought to Kathmandu for investigation.
Ramtel had previously been incarcerated in the Kaski prison. According to the initial police investigation, approximately Rs 111 million has been embezzled from the cooperative.
The cooperative had 27,000 depositors who collectively saved Rs 2.65 billion. A total of 645 depositors have filed complaints with the police regarding the embezzlement.
The police have already questioned former DIG of the cooperative, Chhabilal Joshi, as part of the ongoing investigation.
