KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced the commencement of relief fund distribution for those affected by the continuous rain, flooding, landslides, and inundation that occurred on Sept 27 and 28.
He stated that search and rescue operations would be completed within two days.
During a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal presented a statement on behalf of Prime Minister Oli, emphasizing that free medical treatment would be provided for the injured.
He also noted that measures had been taken to prevent and control potential diseases that may arise following the disaster.
The Prime Minister mentioned that processes had begun for the repair of damaged infrastructure, including drinking water supply, roads, telecommunications, and electricity services, to ensure swift restoration.
The press release highlighted the severe impact of the disaster, reporting 224 fatalities, 24 individuals missing, and 158 injured.
Additionally, 4,331 people in high-risk areas have been rescued and relocated to safer locations.
Twenty-one districts, including Kavrepalanchowk, Lalitpur, Dhading, Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, and Makwanpur, have been significantly affected by the floods and landslides.
