21 bodies recovered from Jhyaple Khola today, death toll reaches 35

KATHMANDU: A landslide in Jhyaple Khola, Dhunibesi Municipality–9 of Dhading district has claimed the lives of 21 more people, whose bodies were recovered on Sunday.

Rescue teams, who have been working since early morning, recovered the bodies of 17 men and four women.

This brings the total number of bodies found so far to 35.

According to Prahlad Silwal, Inspector and Information Officer at the District Police Office in Dhading, 14 bodies had been found by Saturday night, with 21 additional bodies recovered today.

The landslide, which came from the area above the road, buried several vehicles.

Among those discovered were a bus with the registration number Na 4 Kha 2270 and a microbus (Jumbo Hiace) with the registration number Ba 2 Kha 1345.

Another microbus (Winger Van) with the registration number Lu 1 Ja 4578 had been found on Saturday.

The police believe there could be more vehicles buried in the landslide, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Inspector Silwal further mentioned that all the bodies recovered from the landslide have been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for autopsy.

The Tribhuvan Highway’s Naubise-Nagdhunga section has been severely impacted by landslides and debris flow since Friday evening.
