KATHMANDU: The water flow in the Koshi River has started to decrease.

The Koshi Barrage Control Office has reported that the flow is finally beginning to recede.

The water flow, which had reached around 661,000 cusecs, has now reduced to 643,000 cusecs as of this morning, although the situation remains critical.

The movement across the barrage bridge is still restricted.

On Saturday night, due to a significant increase in the water flow through the Koshi Barrage, water overflowed onto the bridge. As a result of the high flood levels, vehicular movement across the Koshi Barrage has been completely halted.

Following the surge in water flow, all 56 gates of the barrage were opened — two each on the Sunsari side and the Saptari side — to manage the excess water.
