ACU & PEC successfully organize 1st Intercollege Girls’ Basketball Tournament

KATHMANDU: Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Professional Education Consultancy (PEC), successfully organized the 1 st Intercollege (10+2) Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Australian Catholic University, is one of the highly ranked and leading universities in Australia. The University has actively been supporting various events, in Nepal, under as a part of CSR. In the past, it has supported in setting up libraries, building girls’ toilet, distributing warm clothes etc for the underprivileged. This is the first time, the university, has supported the sporting activities, and with its success; it does plan to support more activities in future.
Professional Education has been one of the major supporters of women’s sports in Nepal, in the past it has supported many such events. The recent appointment of Ms. Indu Barma, Captain, Nepal’s Women’s Cricket Team, as its Brand Ambassador, is a testament to it.
Women’s sports, somewhat, has been in shadow, and a lot needs to be done, to bring in more professionalism, with events like these and more support from corporate houses, we believe, things will certainly change.
Speaking during the final event, Mr. SK Shrestha, Founder Chair, PEC, mentioned, that PEC will continue supporting this event and make it its annual calendar event.
This event, was participated by 7 girls teams in total, which certainly is a huge encouragement for women’s sports. The finals was held between Xavier International College and Golden Gate International, with Golden Gate International College taking away the winner’s title beating Xavier International Academy, in a nail biting thriller. The game went on to overtime, and the final score was 40-42, in favor of the winners.
Ms. Colma Fechner, Regional Manager, ACU, all the way, from Australia, was there to support the finalists, and she had handed out the trophies to the winners and participants.
Likewise, Ms. Anushka Shrestha, Regional Manager, based in Nepal, and former Miss Nepal, was there to support the teams. She also distributed the trophies to the participants and to the winners.
Mr. SK Shrestha, Founder Chairman and CEO, PEC also distributed the medals and certificates to the participants and winners.
Ms. Indu Barma, Captain, Nepal’s Women’s Cricket Team, stayed through out the final match to encourage the participants. She also distributed the medals and certificates to the winners and to the participants.
Mr. Raju Singh, Director Programs, PEC, handed over the MVP awards of the final and the tournament.
