KATHMANDU: A forest fire has erupted near Athens, Greece.

Greek firefighters on Sunday attempted to control the blaze that has already led to the evacuation of five villages.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis reported that those with minor injuries have been transferred to hospitals.

The fire started around 3 p.m. on Sunday in the northeastern region of Attica.

Greek meteorologists have noted that wind speeds reached up to eight on the Beaufort scale.

The smoke from the fire has traveled approximately 100 kilometers from Vranovasa.
