The Netherlands went ahead in the seventh minute with a goal from Xavi Simons. Simons scored a stunning goal from outside the 18-yard box, hitting the top corner.
However, the Netherlands’ lead did not last long. In the 18th minute, England captain Harry Kane converted a penalty to level the match.
England was awarded the penalty after Denzel Dumfries fouled Kane inside the 18-yard box, with the decision confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Kane made no mistake from the spot.
In the final minute of regulation time, Ollie Watkins scored to give England a 2-1 lead.
Controlling a pass from Cole Palmer, Watkins netted a brilliant goal from inside the penalty box. This was England’s only shot on target in the second half. Watkins had come on as a substitute for Harry Kane in the 81st minute.
Watkins’ decisive goal ensured Gareth Southgate’s England team reached the European Championship final for the second consecutive time. Earlier, Bukayo Saka had a goal disallowed by VAR in the 80th minute.
England will now face Spain in the final. Spain secured their place by defeating France 2-1 in the first semifinal.
The English team also reached the final of Euro 2020 but lost to Italy in a penalty shootout. Despite competing in the European Championship since 1968, England has yet to win the title.
