KATHMANDU: A consensus has also been reached between the parties in the ruling coalition about the members of the National Assembly to be nominated by the President.

The terms of 20 members of the National Assembly, including one nominated by the President, expire on Falgun 20 (March 3).

Nominations for 19 seats will be accepted on Poush 23 (Jan 8), with the election planned for Magh 11 (Jan 25).

Meetings of the ruling parties to distribute seats in the National Assembly have been ongoing.

The Unified Socialists have yet to reach an agreement on the number of seats they will receive at the meeting on Sunday morning.

It is recommended that Congress receive ten seats, the Maoists six, the Unified Socialists two, and the Janata Samajwadi one.

However, no agreement has been reached as the Unified Socialists have stated that they should receive three seats.

According to sources, an agreement has also been reached on the members to be nominated by the President. It has been agreed to nominate Durga Paudel, the vice-chair of the Rastriya Janamorha, for this seat.

Paudel, wife of CPN Masal General Secretary Mohan Bikram Singh, was defeated by CPN UML candidate Surya Thapa from Pyuthan.
