Avoid accessing TikTok through VPN & DNS: Cyber Bureau
The Bureau has asked that VPN and DNS be avoided while unlawfully operating TikTok.
KATHMANDU: The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has said that cases of financial abuse are increasing when TikTok is run using VPN and DNS.
According to a statement made today by the Cyber Bureau, TikTok may access and steal crucial data, personal information, and financial information on the user’s device by using programs such as VPN and DNS.
The Bureau has asked that VPN and DNS be avoided while unlawfully operating TikTok.
According to the resolution of the Council of Ministers meeting on the Kartik 27 (Nov 13), the video platform social network Tiktok in Nepal will be closed.
The information received indicates that the social media platforms TikTok, VPN, and DNS, which have been shut down for broadcasting in full, have been misused to access crucial data, personal details, and banking information stored on users’ devices. Such incidents of cyber misuse are on the rise, as highlighted by the Cyber Security Bureau.
The released statement reads: “Nepal Police Cyber Bureau urges everyone not to engage in activities such as the unlawful dissemination of information in electronic form, propagation of inappropriate content causing negative impact on individuals and society, character assassination, creation of disturbances in public morality, and activities that may adversely affect national unity and interests. These types of activities, especially through the TikTok platform, are prohibited, and everyone is requested to refrain from misusing technology. Nepal Police Cyber Bureau cautions against engaging in such activities.”
