Taekwondo challenge in Asian Games ends

KATHMANDU: Three Nepalese taekwondo players competed on the fourth day of the Hangzhou Asiad on Tuesday.

Nepal’s Govinda Bahadur competed in the men’s 63 kg event at Lin’an Sports and Culture and Exhibition Center, winning the previous 32 matches but losing the final 16.

He advanced to the pre-quarterfinals by defeating Timor-Leste’s Jose da Costa Silva in a referee stoppage match.

He was defeated 2-0 by Thailand’s Banlung Tubtimdang in the pre-quarterfinals.

Similarly, Nepal’s Ayesha Lama lost 2-0 against South Korea’s Haejin Park in the final 16 bout of the women’s 53 kg division on Tuesday.

Sandhya Kumari Singh lost 2-0 to Laititie Aun in the last 16 match of the women’s under 57 kg category.

Four taekwondo players have already been out.
