Agreement between govt & protesting teachers, withdrawal of the protest

KATHMANDU: An agreement has been reached between the protesting teachers against the government and the education bill.

Rekha Sharma, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, stated that it has been agreed that the requests of the teachers will be met by the Parliament, owing to the parliamentary supremacy.

She stated that, in addition to the deal, the instructors will withdraw their protest. Sharma, who is also the government’s spokeswoman, stated that the agreement was based on the government’s consensus plan.

Respecting the Parliament’s sovereignty, it has been agreed to proceed with the process of changing some of the elements in the bill to alter and unify the school education law in accordance with the current law on the legislative system, practice, and operation of the Federal Parliament.

The draft agreement also states that a study committee will be formed with representation from the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and experts on teacher adjustment, level system, and periodic promotion, and that necessary legal arrangements will be made based on the committee’s report.
