Fire in the Canary Islands spread over 1800 hectares

AGENCY: The fire, that started on Wednesday in the Canary Islands, northeast of Tenerife, Spain, has expanded to 1800 hectares.

The fire that erupted on Wednesday has yet to be extinguished. The fire is thought to be growing due to the dry terrain and strong winds.

The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavizo, stated that the fire was difficult to extinguish due to its location in mountainous terrain. The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

The fire spread to the outskirts of El Orotave, a city of 17,500 people.

Due to the fire, approximately 150 individuals have been relocated from that region.

There is no word on how much property was damaged.

Approximately 270 firefighters and 17 additional helicopters attempted to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful.

According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIC), 73,500 hectares of forest have burned so far in 2023 in Spain.
