KATHMANDU: The Kalimati vegetable market sellers have thrown the tomatoes on the road, claiming that they are not being paid a reasonable price.

Farmers and sellers tossed tomatoes onto the market, claiming that they had finished being devoured on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, over 30,000 kilograms of tomatoes were thrown on the road in protest, according to the Kalimati Wholesale and Retail Market Committee.

The Kalimati Market Development Committee has set the wholesale price of tiny tomatoes for Sunday at Rs 8 per kg.

Tomatoes, on the other hand, are sold for at least 30 rupees per kilogram at Kathmandu’s retail market.

Some Kalimati vegetable dealers feel that this was done to raise the price.

Tomatoes traders stated that even at Rs 4 per kg, tomatoes were not sold.

Previously, Chitwan farmers tossed tomatoes on the road, claiming that they did not receive a fair market price.
