KATHMANDU: The Nepali national men’s football team, which is leaving for Philippines for a friendly match, has been bid farewell.

The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has bid farewell to the Nepalese team going to the Philippines on Sunday. Vice President Shiv Koirala, ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nemwang, and others bid farewell at the ceremony at the ANFA headquarters in Satdobato.

The Nepalese team will depart for the Philippines on Monday following a friendly encounter on Jestha 32 (June 15), and will then travel to Bangalore, India. Where the SAFF Championship is being held, including participation from Lebanon and Kuwait from the Middle East.

As the Shahid Smarak A Division League continues through Saturday, Nepal has begun integrated practice and preparation on Sunday.

However, coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese announced a 23-man team last week based on strategic preparations undertaken during the non-league season.

Nepal, the runner-up in the previous edition, will be pushed to repeat their performance in a difficult group this time. Nepal is in Group A, along with India, Kuwait, and Pakistan.

Nepal’s first match is against Kuwait on Ashar 6 (June 21) , the second against hosts India on Ashar 9 (June 24), and the final group encounter against Pakistan on Ashahr 12 (June 27).

Lebanon, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Bangladesh make up Group B of the competition.
