KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the filing of a copy of the Citizenship Bill certified by President Ram Chandra Poudel on Jestha 17 (May 31).

A joint bench of Justices Prakashman Singh Raut and Susmalata Mathema gave this order.

Earlier on Jestha 21 (June 4), a short-term interim order was issued not to immediately execute the Citizenship Bill.

Surendra Bhandari and Balkrishna Neupane, senior attorneys, filed a writ against it, claiming that the President had certified the inactive measure.

The main opposition parties, the CPN-UML, the RSP, and the RPP, have all spoken out against the bill in Parliament.
