KATHMANDU: A petition has been submitted to the President’s Office stating that the Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of life imprisonment and that it will provide amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, the accused in the Tikapur incident.

Sharada Bohara, the wife of Tikapur police officer Keshav Bohara, who was slain in the incident, has firmly petitioned the President.

The government has advanced the process of granting amnesty to Resham. A letter requesting amnesty has been sent from the relevant prison to the President’s Office via the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Last Monday, the Supreme Court upheld the District Court and High Court decisions to sentence Chaudhary for life. With the verdict maintained, he was sentenced to 14 more years in prison.

However, the victims opposed after the government began the amnesty procedure on Jestha 15 (May 29).

Seven police officers and a youngster were slain in the Tikapur tragedy.
