KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Rana Magar, an Ilam State Assembly member, has been named deputy leader of the CPN-UML Koshi State parliamentary party.

Rana was chosen as deputy leader of the CPN parliamentary party on Wednesday.

He formerly served as the state government’s Minister of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives.

Rana, who was elected from Ilam 2(2), was speculated to be appointed to the cabinet.

Srijana Rai of Bhojpur has been appointed whip of the Koshi State legislative party by the CPN-UML.

Rai has been a proportionate member of the State Assembly representing Bhojpur. Both deputy leaders Rana and Rai were discussed as ministers in the cabinet formed by the parliamentary party’s leader, Hikmat Kumar Karki.

After the Chief Minister reduced the number of ministries to 9, neither of them could become ministers.
