KATHMANDU: Meter usury protesters have reached in Baluwatar, the Prime Minister’s official residence.

They reached in Baluwatar after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ summoned them for a meeting.

The victims are protesting after a 12-day walk from Mahottari’s Bardibas to Kathmandu, demanding justice following a sit-in.

The government has already decided to amend the Criminal Code law to combat widespread meter usury fraud in the Terai-Madhesh districts.

Although both parties agreed to amend the existing law to provide justice to victims and to establish a separate powerful committee in each district to take action against meter usury and handle complaints, the talks have not concluded.

The victims of meter badges are hopeful that an agreement will be reached after meeting with the Prime Minister.

Meter usury have asked for ten things, including the abolition of the Tamsuk system and the punishment of the perpetrators, the return of the moneylender’s illegal property to the person whose name it came from, and simple and easy bank loans.
