KATHMANDU: In the House of Representatives meeting, ‘Disappeared Persons Investigation, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Third Amendment) Bill, 2079’ has been submitted.

In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, on behalf of the Prime Minister and Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma submitted the ‘Disappeared Persons Investigation, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Third Amendment) Bill, 2079’. This bill has been brought to replace the Act of 2071 of both commissions.

Minister Sharma stated that as the transitional justice process has been delayed, a bill has been introduced in parliament to address the issue as soon as possible.

She stated that serious human rights violations occurred during the conflict and that an investigation was required because people had gone missing.

The bill was introduced to complete the remaining work of the peace process, compensate the victims, and provide the necessary reconciliation and punishment to the perpetrators, according to the detailed peace agreement.

According to Minister Sharma, the bill was introduced in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order, the law, and international standards.
