KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya presented a certificate to Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav after being elected as the Vice President.

Yadav, the Janata Samajwadi Party’s candidate, was elected vice president in the election held on Friday.

Ram Sahaya secured 30,328 votes out of 52,628 weighted votes, while Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the CPN-UML secured 16,328. Similarly, Mamata Jha of the Janata Dal-Secular secured 2,537 votes.

Similarly, Pramila Yadav of the Janata Samajbadi Party received 48 votes despite withdrawing her candidacy earlier.

The election for vice president took place at the Federal Parliament building in Baneshwor. There were 311 federal lawmakers and 518 State Assembly members who voted.

He received the backing of ten parties, including the Nepali Congress, Maoist Centre, and Unified Socialists, as well as the votes of 184 federal MPs and 329 state MPs.

Yadav began his political career in 1990 with the Nepal Sadbhawana Party.

He was the Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum’s founding general secretary and was involved in the first Madhesh Movement (2007).

Yadav was elected to the House of Representatives from Bara-2 in last November’s elections.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also congratulated him and wished him success during the certificate distribution ceremony.
