Doctors halts strike after six points reached with government

The doctors called off their strike after six points were agreed upon in talks at the Prime Minister's office and the Council of Ministers to meet the doctors' demands.

KATHMANDU: Doctors who agreed with the government on 6 points have suspended the protest.

On Friday, police assaulted Dr Janith Singh, a senior orthopaedic surgeon of the National Trauma Centre, for walking during President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s convoy on its way back to Sheetal Niwas.

Police personnel also attacked other medical officers who had blocked the traffic for half an hour protesting against the attack.

Following the assault the doctors protested in front of Bir Hospital. They halted all non-essential services in government hospitals across the country.

The doctors called off their strike after six points were agreed upon in talks at the Prime Minister’s office and the Council of Ministers to meet the doctors’ demands.

Shambhu Jung Gurung, a senior head constable of the Metropolitan Police Circle, has been suspended by Nepal Police after being accused of baton-charging the doctor.
