Health Ministry urges doctors to return back to work

Ministry of Health and Population has requested the Nepal Medical Association to withdraw the protest program and engage in the regular work of health treatment.

KATHMANDU: In protest against the assaulting of doctors by the police, the Nepal Physicians’ Association has halts all health institutions across the country today, except for emergencies.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari was on her way back from addressing the Parliament meeting on Friday when police assault doctors and health workers with batons, injuring senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Janithlal Singh of the National Trauma Center.

In response, the association has decided to close all other health institutions and hospitals, except for emergencies, across the country, including government and non-government, private and cooperative health institutions, hospitals, private and government medical colleges, institutions, and other services.

Likewise, the Ministry of Health and Population has requested the Nepal Medical Association to withdraw the protest program and engage in the regular work of health treatment.

Spokesperson of the Ministry, Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, issued a statement on Saturday and said that attention has been drawn to the Nepal Medical Association.
