KATHMANDU: The Rashriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has stated that it has not yet decided whether or not to leave the government.

RSP has stated that it has not decided to leave the government and has given the Ministry of Home Affairs two days to make a decision.

According to party spokesperson Mukul Dhakal, the joint meeting of the central committee and the party parliamentary party held at the party office in Basundhara on Thursday evening, Feb 2, decided to give the prime minister and the coordinator of the high-level political mechanism two days to decide whether or not to give the RSP the home ministry.

He said, “Prior to today’s meeting, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli requested two days’ time. Accordingly, the meeting has been postponed for two days for political honesty.”

On Dec 26, the Supreme Court found Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane guilty in the citizenship case, and he lost his positions as Minister, Member of Parliament, and Party President.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Center), was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in Lamichhane’s government led by Prachanda on Dec 11.

According to the law, President Lamichhane was re-cited from the Kathmandu District Administration Office on Jan 29.

RSP is currently represented by Labor, Employment, and Social Security Minister Dol Prasad Aryal, Education Minister Shishir Khanal, and State Health Minister Dr. Toshima Karki.

The Maoist Center’s Standing Committee met today and decided that the party should wait until the full text of the Supreme Court’s decision on RSP President Lamichhane’s citizenship is released.
