POKHARA: Cancer treatment, which had been halted since 2050, will now be carried out from Pokhara.
Dr. Bruce Richard’s team from the UK performed cancer surgery at the Western Regional Hospital in the year 2050.
After they left Nepal, the previously closed surgery was reopened. They are about to perform the operation after the hospital brought in the microscope some time ago. Plastic surgery facility arrived 6 months after facial surgery began one year ago.
Director Dr. Bharat Bahadur Khatri informed that surgery for oral cancer has been started now. Khatri said that a 54-year-old man from Parbat was successfully operated on for oral cancer.
A team including plastic surgeon Dr. Piyush Giri and a team of dentists including maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Narayan Sharma Lamichhane operated on him.
His third-stage cancer was surgically removed on Feb 12, and the patient’s left arm was transplanted. According to Khatri, he was discharged and returned home on Feb 19.
The wound in his mouth was surgically repaired, and the flesh from his left hand was transplanted. The surgery was carried out by a team of expert doctors over the course of 10 hours.
