Karnali State Hospital likely to start kidney transplant from this week

SURKHET: Kidney transplantation service to begin at the state hospital in Surkhet, the state capital of Karnali. The hospital stated that the kidney transplant service will begin this week.

At present, the kidney transplant service is being operated only in Kathmandu and Pokhara, the director of the state hospital, Dr. Dambar Khadka, said in a press conference on Monday that this service will also be started in the state hospital Surkhet from next Saturday. Some additional services have also been expanded in the state hospital from this financial year.

Among the expanded services, eye surgery services (phaco method) can now be obtained at the state hospital. There will be 7 more modular OTs, an expansion of dialysis services (ICU and post op), orthopedic surgery 6 days a week, and general surgery.

Dr. Khadka stated that a kidney transplant service will be contracted and operated four days a week beginning this week, and that an MRI machine will be operational by the end of Chaith (mid-April).

He further stated that the tender process for the hospital’s additional floor is currently underway. Extra services Eye surgery service (phaco method), 7 more modular OTs to be operated, dialysis service (ICU) and post op expansion, orthopedic surgery 6 days a week, general surgery 4 days a week, kidney transplant service Starting on Saturday, the MRI machine will be operational by the end of Chaitra (mid-April); the hospital currently has 297 beds available.

This hospital, which was established as a health center in the year 2019 BS in Gothikanda, the old headquarters of Surkhet district, was transferred to Surkhet Valley around 2024.

In the year 2029, the service was expanded to 25 beds through the district hospital of 15 beds.

This hospital, which was upgraded as a 50-bed Midwestern State Hospital on 2062 Falgun 7, was transformed into a State Hospital on 2075 Kartik 13, and with the main financial support of the Karnali State Government and some financial support from the Federal Government, State Hospital Surkhet is currently providing services in 297 beds with specialist services.
