WHO urges China to share specific data regularly on COVID
Previously, China's health authorities reported that nearly 60,000 people had died in China in the previous month as a result of the COVID problem.
KATHMANDU: The World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday called on China to provide more data about its COVID situation.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the call in a conversation with Ma Xiaowei, Director of China’s National Health Commission, after Beijing reported 60,000 deaths from COVID-related problems in a month.
“Dr. Tedros emphasized the importance of China’s deep cooperation and transparency,” according to the WHO statement.
Previously, China’s health authorities reported that nearly 60,000 people had died in China in the previous month as a result of the COVID problem.
According to Xiao Yahui, the head of the Medical Administration Bureau under the National Health Commission (NHC), 59 thousand 938 people died in China due to COVID from Dec 8, 2022, to Jan 12, this year.
According to him, 5 thousand 503 people died as a result of COVID-related respiratory problems, while 54 thousand 435 died as a result of COVID-related other diseases.
In early Dec, the government lifted the ban on the zero COVID policy. Every day since then, thousands of people have become infected with COVID.
