New govt should be able to end corruption in health sector: NEHPA
The association, which held a press conference at Babar Mahal on Thursday, demanded that stakeholders collect suggestions and implement them immediately in order to create a health-oriented policy.
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Public Health Association (NEPHA) has said that it is necessary to make radical changes in the health sector and amend impractical laws and regulations.
The association, which held a press conference at Babar Mahal on Thursday, demanded that stakeholders collect suggestions and implement them immediately in order to create a health-oriented policy.
Nawaraj Basnet, the Chair of the association, stated on the program that the new government should end corruption in the health sector and implement policy reforms.
He stated that there is up to 40% corruption in the health sector and that the government should take precautions to address it. ‘It has been revealed that 40% corruption has occurred in the health sector,’ he said. The new administration should now begin to make improvements. Some medical shops and businessmen have been accused of selling free medicines in exchange for money.
The free medicine is going to waste in some way. ‘The government must exercise caution in resolving and controlling it.’
He went on to say that the healthcare system has become more politicized. This, too, should be closed.
