Ward Chair Shrestha under police custody on raping a minor
According to the police, he went to the Nijgadh police station in the district around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night and surrendered.

KATHMANDU: Raju Shrestha (Rajan), the ward chairperson of Bara’s Nijgadh Municipality Ward No. 2, has been detained by the police on charges of coercion. Ward No. 2 Ward Chairperson Shrestha was arrested on charges of raping a minor, the police said.
Ward Chairperson Shrestha summoned a minor to his residence and filed a complaint with the District Police Office in Nijgarh on Tuesday, 2079 Ashwin 25 (11 Oct 2022). Shrestha, the ward chairperson, fled as soon as the complaint was filed.
According to the district’s Nijgadh police office, the ward chairperson has been arrested. According to the police, he went to the Nijgadh police station in the district around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night and surrendered.
Shrestha raped a 15-year-old minor, according to the complaint. On Dashain, Oct 5, the girl filed a complaint alleging that chairperson Shrestha had raped her in her own home.
Shrestha was elected ward chairperson by the Nepali Congress in the Baisakh (April/May) local elections.
