12 people died in Makwanpur & Rukum East accident

KATHMANDU: A passenger bus accident in Makwanpur and Rukum East killed 12 people and injured 38 others.

On Thursday, 7 people died in Makwanpur’s Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6 Jurikhet and 5 people died in Rukum East’s Bhume Rural Municipality-3 Kangsi Bagar when a bus fell due to a brake failure.

According to the police, the minibus fell about 50 meters down the narrow road in Bhimphedi after brake failure. In the accident, 26 people were injured.

The minibus carrying 33 passengers from Kathmandu to Hetaunda, No. BA3K 7858, crashed from Jurikhet’s eghara hill (eleventh hill). According to the police, the deceased’s identity has not been revealed.

Similarly, bus No. G1K 9109 traveling from Kathmandu to Rukumkot, the administrative center of Rukum East, was involved in an accident at Kangsi Bagar in Bhume-3.

According to the police, the bus carried 17 passengers. Five people were killed. Four seriously injured people were flown by army helicopter to Kohalpur in Banke for treatment. The local district hospital is treating eight people. Three people died on the scene of the accident, and two others died while receiving treatment.

According to police inspector Krishna Khatri, the accident may have occurred because the driver was unable to control the speed of the bus due to brake failure.

The bus, which was traveling straight on the Madhya Pahadi Lokmarga’s Khabang-Rukumkot section, crashed about 50 meters from the road.
