KATHMANDU: The Election Commission’s deadline for registering political parties for election purposes expires today.

The commission’s deadline for representative and state assembly elections to be held on Nov 20 is about to expire today.

The Commission’s spokesperson, Shaligram Sharma Poudel, stated that with the registration of the CK Raut-led Janamat Party as the number one political party, the number of political parties to be registered with the Commission has increased to 62.

Nationally recognized parties such as the CPN-UML, the CPN-Maoist Center, and others have registered with the commission, but Congress has yet to do so, according to the commission.

Among the nationally recognized political parties, the ruling Nepali Congress is preparing to apply for party registration today. Chief Secretary Poudel has been tasked by Nepali Congress (NC) with completing the party registration process.
