FIFA moves World Cup start forward by one day to Nov 20

Following discussions between the host country, Qatar, and FIFA, the world's highest governing body, the match has been moved by one day.

KATHMANDU: FIFA has moved the start of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar forward by one day to allow the host nation to play after an opening ceremony on Sunday, Nov 20.

Previously, the World Cup was scheduled to begin on November 21, but it will now begin one day earlier, on November 20.

The host Qatar will play Ecuador in the opening match. The previous schedule had Qatar and Ecuador playing on November 21 as the third match.

The World Cup has been moved forward one day in order to keep the organizers’ tradition of playing the first match of the World Cup.
