Booster dose: 85% protection against serious illness & death

KATHMANDU: COVID-19 infection is on the rise in Nepal. Not only has the number of people infected with COVID-19 increased in the last two weeks but so has the number of serious illnesses and deaths.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the number of vaccines and boosters available is effective in reducing serious illness and death caused by COVID-19.

The booster dose vaccine, according to the ministry, provides approximately 85 percent protection against serious illness or death.

More than 75% of those who died in Nepal as a result of COVID-19 infection were not immunized. The ministry has stated that those who have not been vaccinated are at high risk, while urging COVID-19 vaccination.

Those who have not been vaccinated are at high risk of contracting COVID-19, so the ministry has advised them to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The ministry advised contacting the nearest health facility to obtain the first, second, and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as needed.

According to the ministry, approximately 50% of people infected with COVID-19 do not exhibit any symptoms. ‘If you are not vaccinated and become infected with COVID-19, the possibility of becoming seriously ill or dying is ten times greater than that of vaccinated people.’
