KATHMANDU: The government, according to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, is committed to holding the House of Representatives (HoR) and state assembly elections on time.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Deuba said that periodic elections would play an important role in strengthening the democratic-republican parliamentary system at a program organized by the Former Parliamentary Forum on the occasion of the 64th Parliamentary Day at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.

Prime Minister Deuba stated that everyone should contribute to strengthening the country’s governance system and accelerating development. He clarified that the government will prioritize implementing the decisions of the parliament and parliamentary committees.

Jhala Nath Khanal, former prime minister and CPN-Unified Socialist leader, spoke on the occasion, saying that the people were frustrated as the government, which received two-thirds of the votes, failed to do the expected work. He emphasized the importance of moving the parliament forward with dignity for the country’s social, economic, and cultural transformation.

Similarly, senior Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel stated that everyone should work hard to strengthen the parliamentary system. He also stated that parliamentarians should carry out their parliamentary responsibilities.

On the occasion, Law Minister Govinda Sharma Koirala argued that parliamentarians’ roles would be critical in making the parliament dignified.
