KATHMANDU: Pankaj Bikram Nemwang has been elected chairperson of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). In the general assembly held on Monday at Park Village Resort in Budhanilkantha, Nemwang defeated the outgoing chairperson of ANFA’s 21st Central Working Committee, Karma Tsering Sherpa, by six votes.

Nemwang secured 45 votes out of a total of 84 votes cast, while Sherpa secured 39 votes. Current chairperson Karma Tsering Sherpa, senior vice-chairperson Pankaj Bikram Nemwang, and former Friends Club chairperson Rajiv Poudel were all candidates for the ANFA chairmanship.

There were 84 votes cast in this ANFA election. 45 of the 48 districts affiliated with ANFA have the right to vote. Similarly, 14 clubs in the Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division League, 11 clubs in the ‘B’ Division League, and 9 clubs in the ‘C’ Division League have the right to vote.

In addition to the four clubs that have been waiting for two years to be selected for the national league, four unions affiliated to ANFA have the right to vote, while referees, coaches, players and women’s unions have got the right to vote one each.
