UML’s mayoral, deputy-mayoral candidates won election in Birendranagar

SURKHET: MAY. 19 – Mohan Maya Dhakal has been elected as the mayor of Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet, the capital of Karnali State.

According to the final results of the local election, Dhakal of the CPN-UML defeated the Congress candidate for mayor, Upendra Bahadur Khadka. Dhakal obtained 16038 votes, while Khadka polled 15484 votes.

Dhakal won by a margin of 554 votes over Khadka. Mukunda Shyam Giri of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party secured 9988 votes and was defeated.

Dhakal is also the current deputy mayor. Similarly, Nilkantha Khanal of the UML has been elected deputy mayor. When he won with 20364 votes, Maoist candidate Shanti Dhakal got 11533 votes from the alliance.

Similarly, RPP candidate Laxmi Kumari Sarki obtained 3697 votes. Khanal was also elected as the ward chairperson of Birendranagar ward number four.
