3 passengers killed, 5 injured due to electrocution in India’s Rajasthan

NEW DELHI: APRIL. 5 – Three passengers sitting atop a bus were killed and five others injured on Tuesday after they were electrocuted by an electric wire in the western state of Rajasthan, officials said.

The accident took place in the Jaisalmer district, about 560 km west of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan.

Officials said the passengers on the rooftop of the bus came into contact with the wire while it was plying on the road.

“Today three people were killed and five others injured due to electrocution. The victims were atop a passenger bus that was returning from a fair at a temple in the neighboring village,” V.K. Vermaan, a senior health official told media. “One seriously injured has been referred to Jodhpur and four others have been kept under observation.”

Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the mishap.

“The death of three people due to electrocution in a bus in Jaisalmer is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” Gehlot wrote on social media. “Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured in the accident.”
