13 schools closed in Kyrgyz capital due to COVID-19

BISHKEK: JAN. 18 – A total of 13 schools and a kindergarten in Bishkek have closed due to COVID-19, the mayor’s office announced on Tuesday.

The last pandemic-triggered massive shutdown of schools in the country was in March 2020 when all Kyrgyz schools and higher education institutions were closed in fear of the spread of COVID-19.

According to data from the country’s Republican Headquarters for Combating COVID-19, 820 new cases of the novel coronavirus were detected across the country in the past day, with 600 registered in Bishkek.

To date, 191,288 cases have been recorded in the country, with 181,225 recoveries and 2,836 deaths.

There are 5,737 active cases currently in the country.
