JANAKPUR: JAN. 18 – Today is a public holiday in Madhesh State to celebrate the success of naming and capital. The state assembly meeting on Monday announced the name Madhesh and the permanent capital Janakpurdham.

It was passed by more than two-thirds of the votes cast in the state assembly election on the issues of name and capital on Monday. Despite the fact that the state assembly had 104 members, including the Speaker, only 99 of them voted.

The name ‘Madhesh’ got 80 votes out of 99 votes cast in the state polls. Janakpurdham, the state’s permanent capital, got 78 votes out of a total of 99 votes cast.

Spokesperson of the government and Finance Minister Shailendra Prasad Sah said that the government has announced a public holiday on Jan 18 (today) to celebrate the decision of the state assembly of naming the state as ‘Madhesh’ with Janakpurdham as its permanent capital.
