KATHMANDU: JAN. 7 – Communist Party of Nepal (UML) district convention is being held today. Except for the Himalayas, all districts’ conventions will be held today.

According to Bishnu Rijal, deputy chairperson of the publicity department, the convention would be opened from the central office through virtual media by party chairperson KP Sharma Oli. Despite the fact that UML’s 10th general convention ended last November, the district convention is ready to begin. The state convention is scheduled to be held on Jan 22.

Meanwhile, the UML organization department has circulated three-point criteria regarding district committees in all 77 districts. To be an office-bearer, one must have served on the district committee for two terms or as a member of the secretariat for one term, according to the committee’s criteria.

Members must have served on at least one District Committee, District Department, or sub-level committee. Similarly, in the case of individuals who have joined the party through unification, unity will be in line with Article 63 (11) of the constitution. The convention will choose new leaders.

It is said that it will take place after the convention in some disputed districts of State-2. The controversy erupted after UML secretary and state 2 in-charge Raghubir Mahaseth started nominating members on his own.
