KATHMANDU: SEPT. 20 – Banks and financial institutions will provide new notes from today in view of Dashain, an important festival of Nepal. Nepal Rastra Bank has stated that arrangements have been made for the distribution of banknotes as the new banknotes will have special significance in the Dashain.

According to the central bank’s note management department, a new banknote exchange facility has been provided in the Kathmandu Valley from today through the designated branch offices of licensed commercial banks. Banknotes can be exchanged at the nearest branch office specified by the commercial bank, according to the central bank.

NRB has urged the people to adopt health precautions and exchange notes keeping in mind the risk of transmission of coronavirus. It is mentioned in the notice that the facility of note exchange can be availed by going to the state office of NRB or the nearest branch office designated by Banijya Bank outside Kathmandu Valley.

It has been requested to adopt the health standards prescribed by the government and local administration and to follow the social distance completely. The central bank is preparing to distribute notes of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 up to Rs 15 billion. In total, the central bank is preparing to distribute new notes worth Rs 35 billion.

Arrangements have been made to distribute the new notes through all 27 commercial banks and their branch offices, realizing the long queue at the central bank office for new notes.
