KATHMANDU: SEPT. 11 – The Rishi Panchami festival celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shukla Panchami is being celebrated by Vedic Sanatan Hindu women today by worshipping Saptarshi.

On the day of Rishi Panchami, the women get up in the morning and go to the nearby rivers, streams, lakes and ponds. There is a religious belief that worshipping Saptarshi along with Arundhati on the day of Rishi Panchami will get rid of any defect including menstruation during menstruation.

There is a scriptural saying that bathing using Datiwan, cow dung, soil and ashes and consuming Panchagavya removes the guilt of untouchability. After bathing, lamps, urns, Ganesha are installed and Arundhati, Atri, Gautam, Bhardwaj, Jamadagni, Vashishta, Kashyap and Vishwamitra are worshipped, which is said to be the worship of Rishi Panchami.
