KABUL: AUGUST 30 – The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at the Iraqi police recruiting centre at Kisak, west of Kabul.

U.S. officials say a suicide bomber struck shortly afternoon in front of a Kabul airport.

“We are convinced that we hit the target,” a military official told the BBC’s US partner Media CBS.

The United States has said a drone strike in Kabul today “eliminates” a threat to the airport.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says attacks in Afghanistan will continue after 170 people were killed in an attack on Kabul airport.

“The president (Joe Biden) does not want to start a new war in Afghanistan,” he told CBS Television.

“In doing so, the president has ordered that those who attack our troops at Kabul airport be brought under control with all possible weapons and force. The ISIS attacker at Kabul airport must be weakened.”

Various reports have surfaced that a large explosion was heard near Kabul International Airport.

Some of the pictures posted on social media showed black smoke.

A health ministry official confirmed the blast.

It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.

Warning of another attack at the airport

Earlier, US President Joe Biden warned of another attack on Kabul airport.

Biden said US commanders had warned him that a similar attack could take place on Sunday.

The U.S. State Department has asked U.S. citizens to stay out of the airport area because of the “danger.”

The United States is working to repatriate its citizens from Afghanistan.

Britain has repatriated its troops and officers.

A suicide bomber struck near the airport on Thursday, killing at least 170 people.

Islamic State, a local branch of the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The United States has said it carried out a drone strike in eastern Afghanistan late Friday in response to an attack on Kabul airport that killed two ISK members.

The bomber struck shortly afternoon in front of a Kabul airport.
