KATHMANDU: As soon as the water from Melamchi reaches Kathmandu, water will come to the houses of the people of the valley on a daily basis. Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited plans to distribute water on a daily basis from the second week of Chaith.

While the tunnel is currently being tested, the structure will be tested for another two to three months. Milan Shakya, chief executive director of the company, said that the water treatment plant at Sundarijal will be tested along with the tunnel. After the completion of testing by the center, water will be sent to both new and old ponds. The water from the new pond will be tested in the pipe and the water from the old pond will go into the system immediately.

The tunnel is currently being tested. After that, the processing center and then the wholesale distribution system pipeline will be tested, according to the Ministry of Drinking Water.

In Kathmandu Valley, water will go to nine ponds constructed for Melamchi water distribution and six ponds already in operation. Testing of the new pipeline begins in Chait with water filled in the new pond.

The Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee has stated that the Kathmandu Valley will not receive water as per its capacity after two weeks. As all the structures are being tested now, it will come in small quantities for the time being. It is planned to increase it gradually. RSS
