Foreign Minister Rana meets with UN USG Lacroix

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that it was warranted to appoint a Nepali military officer to a high position considering Nepal's contribution to peace in various conflict-affected countries of the world at the call of the United Nations.

NEW YORK (USA): Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba met with the United Nations Under Secretary General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.

During the meeting in New York on Wednesday, the Foreign Minister said that Nepal has been contributing to the UN peace mission for a long time and stressed that Nepal should be given an opportunity to service in the high positions of the mission, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that it was warranted to appoint a Nepali military officer to a high position considering Nepal’s contribution to peace in various conflict-affected countries of the world at the call of the United Nations.

Also on Wednesday, the Foreign Minister met with the United Nations High Representative for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Rabab Fatima.

During the meeting, matters of common interests including Sustainable Development Goals and climate change action plans were discussed. It was also emphasized that as the Chair of the global coordination bureau of the least developed countries, Nepal should lead the collective interests of the least developed countries.

Meanwhile, during the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Rana and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić signed an agreement on exempting VISA for diplomatic and government passport holders of the two countries.

Earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Dr Rana, who is member of the Nepali delegation to 79th UNGA, met with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez.

During the meeting, matters related to strengthening of mutual relation between Nepal and Spain were discussed.

Diplomatic relations were established between Nepal and Spain on May 13, 1968.
